There are several things a homeowner can do which can help prevent pest infestations. To help keep your home free from pests, take these precautions:

Tip 1
Seal cracks and crevices in the kitchen like broken tiles, kitchen cabinets and joints around sink with silicon sealant to prevent cockroach harbourage. Do not use corrugated boxes to store vegetables .Do not store used milk bags.

Seal gaps in window frames, gap between the door and floor to keep away rats.

Tip 3
Be sure all doors and windows are properly sealed with tight-fitting screens and weather stripping to prevent entry of flying insects as mosquitoes and house flies.

Keep all food commodities in closed containers avoid spillage of food particles in the storage areas.

Tip 5
Consider storing woollen garments in plastic boxes or polythene bags after use to prevent fabric pests from getting to them.

Ensure that the attic and lofts have sufficient ventilation. Research has shown that proper ventilation creates an environment unsuitable for cockroaches and other pests. Avoid storage of unwanted boxes, cartons and trash in the house.

Do not allow pet food to sit out overnight, inside or outside.
